Overview
Living in a good-quality home in a safe, decent community is at the heart of the American dream.
Yet millions of Americans — hard-working people with moderate incomes — are struggling to find homes within their reach. This growing problem affects everyone, even those who already own a home. Many people — people important to us, and to our families, our companies and our communities — are unable to find affordable homes near their places of work.
The challenge is huge, but solutions already exist that can enable police officers, teachers, retail associates, bank employees and others to afford homes in the communities they support.
Mission
Homes for Working Families is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing policy changes that enable more of America's working families to find safe, good-quality homes they can afford.
Focus
We are working in the nation's large metropolitan areas to implement promising solutions to help working families afford to live close to where they work.
What We Do
- We Build Local Coalitions. We work in large metro areas to assemble local coalitions of business and civic leaders who can help implement policies that combat the home affordability problem for working families.
- We Act as a National Catalyst. We engage national employers, policy-makers and thought leaders in the dialogue about the shortage of affordable homes. We encourage them to participate in efforts to change local, state and federal policies.
- We Serve as an Information Clearinghouse. In addition to staff support, we offer best practices, model policies, and academic and public opinion research to advance policy changes that increase access to safe, good-quliaty homes.
